Job Description
Missions
The successful candidate will join the Pain & Psychopathology research team at the Institute of Cellular and Integrative Neuroscience (INCI) and contribute to an ANR-funded project entitled “Decoding Neural Ensembles Responsible for the Long-Term Consequences of Pain.” The project will be conducted under the supervision of Dr. Ipek Yalcin.
The team investigates the neurobiological mechanisms underlying chronic pain, with a particular focus on neuropathic pain and its associated mood disorders, including anxiety and depression. Among cortical regions, the anterior cingulate cortex (ACC) plays a critical role in pain perception, emotional processing, and cognitive integration.
This project aims to identify molecular alterations within the ACC under chronic pain conditions. We are seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher to investigate transcriptomic and epigenetic adaptations associated with chronic pain.
Activity
The postdoctoral researcher will play a central role in the molecular and bioinformatic aspects of the project and will:
• Use a viral Translating Ribosome Affinity Purification (vTRAP) strategy for deep molecular phenotyping.
• Perform RNA sequencing (RNA-seq) analyses.
• Conduct DNA methylation sequencing experiments.
• Contribute to bioinformatic analyses to identify molecular signatures and gene networks associated with chronic pain and emotional dysregulation.
• Participate in data analysis and interpretation.
• Contribute to figure preparation, manuscript writing, and presentation of scientific results.
• Interact closely with team members and collaborators.
Your Profil
Skills
Applicants must hold a PhD in Neuroscience, Biology, Molecular Biology, Bioinformatics, or a related field, and should possess:
Required Qualifications
• Strong background in transcriptomics and/or molecular profiling, particularly RNA sequencing.
• Mandatory wet-lab experience.
• Experience in bioinformatic data analysis.
• Scientific writing skills and experience preparing research manuscripts.
Desirable Qualifications
• Experience with TRAP-based approaches.
• Knowledge of epigenetic mechanisms and analyses.
• Previous experience in pain research.
Your Work Environment
The successful candidate will be employed by the French National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS) and will work at the Institute of Cellular and Integrative Neuroscience (INCI, UMR 3212), located on the Esplanade Campus of the University of Strasbourg, in the heart of Strasbourg, France. The institute benefits from an outstanding scientific environment, bringing together numerous research units in biology, neuroscience, and health sciences, and is easily accessible by public transportation (tram and bus).
The successful candidate will join the Pain & Psychopathology research team under the supervision of Dr. Ipek Yalcin. The team comprises researchers, faculty members, engineers, postdoctoral fellows, PhD students, and undergraduate and graduate students, and develops multidisciplinary approaches to investigate the neurobiological mechanisms underlying chronic pain and its psychiatric comorbidities.
INCI offers a dynamic and international research environment that fosters local, national, and international scientific collaborations. The successful candidate will have access to state-of-the-art technological platforms and a network of experts in neuroscience, molecular biology, and bioinformatics.
• 46 days of annual leave and RTT days per year.
• Partial reimbursement of commuting expenses in accordance with CNRS regulations.
• Access to subsidized catering facilities located near the institute.
• Access to social, cultural, and welfare benefits provided by CNRS.
• Opportunities for continuing education and professional development.
• Possibility of occasional remote work, in accordance with CNRS regulations and subject to compatibility with the experimental requirements of the project.
Constraints and risks
The position involves both experimental laboratory work and bioinformatic analyses. Part of the research activities will be conducted using animal models, in compliance with applicable regulations and following the required training.
Occasional travel within France and abroad may be required to attend scientific conferences, consortium meetings, or specialized training courses.
Compensation and benefits
