Missions
The postdoctoral researcher recruited will contribute to the development of a digital twin for the combustion of isolated particles.
Their main tasks will be:
1. Performing advanced numerical simulations
- Using and developing the BASILISK calculation code to simulate the combustion of isolated metal particles.
- Implementing models for heat transfer, chemical reaction and oxide formation.
- Developing a digital twin methodology integrating modelling and experimental data.
2. Conducting validation experiments
- Performing experimental measurements on isolated particles (e.g. electrostatic levitation) to characterise ignition and combustion times.
- Building an experimental reference database for comparison with simulation results.
Activities
The activities will be as follows:
- Development, implementation and validation of numerical simulations with BASILISK.
- Conducting experimental tests and analysing the results.
- Comparison of simulation and experiment to refine the models.
- Contribution to project reports, scientific publications and communications.
Skills
The candidate must have the following skills:
Know-how:
- Solid skills in computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and multiphysics simulation.
- Good knowledge of at least one simulation code.
- Interest or experience in experimentation in the field of combustion.
- Proficiency in scientific languages (C, C++, Python, Matlab)
Interpersonal skills:
- Autonomy, experimental rigour and initiative.
- Ability to work in a team in a collaborative environment.
- Motivation to contribute to an ambitious and interdisciplinary research project.
Work Context
At the CNRS, in the ICARE UPR3021 laboratory located on the CNRS campus in Orléans, the candidate will join the PC team. This project aims to better understand and model the combustion of metal particles in order to design new, efficient and sustainable energy conversion processes. The postdoctoral researcher will work at CNRS-ICARE (Orléans) in a high-level scientific environment with access to experimental platforms and advanced digital tools.
ICARE is a CNRS unit attached to the Engineering Department, whose main research themes are Combustion and Reactive Systems, the Atmosphere and the Environment, and Space Propulsion and Atmospheric Re-entry. The laboratory is composed of 8 researchers, 15 teacher-researchers, 15 ITA staff and around 30 doctoral and postdoctoral students. The laboratory comprises three buildings located on the CNRS campus in Orléans-la-Source.
