Missions
The position is part of the Biotherep project (LEAP-RE, Horizon Europe) and involves collaboration with partners in Germany, South Africa, Morocco and Italy.
The candidate will work on a 5 kW biomass/waste gasifier available in the laboratory.
The tasks will be as follows:
- Start up the gasifier
- Prepare the waste (homogenise the product, condition the quantities to be gasified according to the desired particle size and mixing percentages)
- Conduct gasification measurement campaigns
- Analyse the results
- Write up experiment reports and a final report.
Activities
The activities will be as follows:
- Preparation of raw materials (batches)
- Characterisation of samples from each batch of raw materials (particle size, moisture content, various analyses)
- Conducting tests on the gasifier (syngas production, online sampling for analysis, syngas combustion disposal)
- Analysing the characteristics of the syngas obtained (flow rate, temperature, composition, tar content) according to the input parameters
- Writing up experiment reports.
Skills
The candidate must have the following skills:
Know-how:
- Solid knowledge of energy engineering, ideally with experience in pyrolysis, combustion and gasification processes
- Previous experience and data analysis in gas, ATG
- Basic knowledge of experimental design
- Ability to work in a team on multidisciplinary projects
Interpersonal skills:
- Good knowledge of test development and conduct, ideally with experience in biomass conversion processes using thermochemical processes
- Knowledge of gasification modelling approaches
- A solid knowledge of physical chemistry and the safety conditions to be observed when implementing these processes is essential.
Work Context
At the CNRS, in the ICARE UPR3021 laboratory located on the CNRS campus in Orléans, the candidate will join the C2B (Biomass Combustion and Biofuels) team and will mainly carry out biomass gasification experiments at the ICARE-CNRS laboratory (Institute of Combustion, Aerothermics, Reactivity and Environment).
ICARE is a CNRS unit attached to the Engineering Department, whose main research topics are Combustion and Reactive Systems, the Atmosphere and the Environment, as well as Space Propulsion and Atmospheric Re-entry. The laboratory is composed of 8 researchers, 15 teacher-researchers, 15 ITA staff and around 30 doctoral and post-doctoral students. The laboratory comprises three buildings located on the CNRS campus in Orléans-la-Source.
