Missions
At the CNRS, in the laboratory ICARE (UPR3021) located on the CNRS campus in Orléans, the candidate will be responsible for performing an experimental study on the flame propagation of partially cracked ammonia (NH3/H2/N2) / air mixtures, as part of the PEPR-SPLEEN program AMHYABLE. In particular, the work at CNRS will focus on the characterization of the laminar and turbulent flame speeds for NH3 / H2 / N2 / air mixtures, with various fuel blends. The spherical reactor techniques will be used. The experimental database will serve to the validation of detailed and reduced chemical kinetic models and LES tools performed by the project partners.
Activités
The research includes the use of the spherical vessel at ICARE for: 1) determination of the laminar flame speed and the Markstein length as function of mixture composition as well as for different equivalence ratios, pressures, and temperatures; 2) for similar conditions, determination of the amplification factor due to the thermo-diffusive instabilities; 3) for selected conditions, execution of a detailed experimental study on the flame propagation in the presence of turbulence fields.
Compétences
1) PhD in mechanical/chemical engineering or equivalent with experience in the combustion field; 2) experience in experimental chemical kinetics; 3) ability to work in team on multi-disciplinary projects; 4) good level in English; 5) ability to write articles for international conferences and journals.
Contexte de travail
At the CNRS, in the ICARE laboratory located on the CNRS campus in Orléans (UPR3021), the candidate will join the CDSE team and will be responsible for conducting research as part of the project AMHYABLE, funded by ANR through the PEPR-SPLEEN program. AMHYABLE will contribute to the decarbonization of the French industry supporting the large-scale utilization of combustion technologies based on partially-cracked ammonia through both fundamental chemical kinetic and CFD research and application to an actual burner.
ICARE is a CNRS unit attached to the Engineering Department whose main research topics are Combustion and Reactive Systems, the Atmosphere and the Environment, and Space Propulsion and Atmospheric Reentry. The laboratory is composed of 8 researchers, 15 teachers, 15 ITA staff, and around 30 doctoral and postdoctoral students. The laboratory consists of a group of three buildings located on the CNRS campus in Orléans-la-Source.
