At the CNRS, located on the CNRS campus in Orléans, at the ICARE UPR3021 laboratory, which employs about 80 people,The candidate will contribute to the development and the use of an instrument dedicated to the NO3 measurements that will be use both in the laboratory and the field. He/She will conduct state of the art investigations of atmospheric chemical processes using the developed instrument as well as the existing analytical tools at the HELIOS atmospheric simulation chamber. He/She will take part in the improvement of the HELIOS platform. The processes to be studied involve radical gas phase chemistry as well as secondary organic aerosol formation and chemical composition. He/She will be asked to actively participate in the research projects of the atmospheric reactivity group.

The CNRS ICARE laboratory develops research activities in the fields of combustion chemistry and physics, propulsion plasmas and atmospheric and environmental chemistry.
The research activities of the Atmospheric Reactivity group (ARg) mainly deals with laboratory and field studies of gas phase and heterogeneous chemical processes of interest for the troposphere. Furthermore, ARg is associated with the Observatoire des Sciences de l'Univers en région Centre (OSUC), one of the Institutes of Orléans University and belongs to the French national network of observatories in Earth and Space Sciences (INSU-CNRS). ARg has access to the different OSUC laboratories and facilities.
The research will be conducted in collaboration with Colorado State University and carried out within the framework of a Feder project entitled COALA ("Oxidizing capacity of the atmosphere: free radicals and air quality")

the candidate must have:
- general skills in atmospheric physico-chemistry to more technical skills such as optical diagnosis, spectroscopy, mass spectrometry and possibly chromatography.
- ability to work in a team on multi-disciplinary projects.
- able to be fully involved in the project, with strong motivation and the ability to be autonomous.
- Writing skills: high level of oral and written communication (English and/or French required) to be able to make presentations at conferences and write articles in scientific publications.

Work Context

The research will be carried out in collaboration with Colorado State University and will be carried out within the framework of an ERDF project entitled COALA ("Oxidizing capacity of the atmosphere: free radicals and air quality") and will focus on NO3 radicals that are at the heart of oxidation processes in the atmosphere and whose reactivity towards gaseous pollutants plays an important role in defining the atmospheric life of organic pollutants.

Constraints and risks

the ICARE laboratory is in a ZRR (Restrictive Regime Zone), the candidate's reception must be requested from the defence security officer
