Job Description
Missions
Quantum nanoelectronics investigates the behaviour of electrical charges at extremely small scales. However, these processes occur in trillionths of a second, far too fast for current methods to capture. The ERC-funded UltraWave project aims to overcome this limitation by developing a unique platform that combines high-intensity terahertz pulses with ultra-cold environments. This innovative approach will enable researchers to observe and control the motion of individual charges in real time. Researchers will use advanced germanium-based materials with exceptional quantum properties to pioneer new methods for manipulating quantum states. The anticipated outcomes have significant implications for quantum technologies and the future of information processing.
The candidate will be taking part in this ambitious research project to develop quantum entanglement schemes with ultrashort electron wavepackets.
Activity
The candidate will participate in one of the following research projects:
• Developing a single-electron detector for flying electrons
• Probing quantum entanglement using ultrashort charge wavepackets
• Exploring the frontiers of THz quantum nanoelectronics
as well as in the nanofabrication of advanced quantum devices which includes
• Developing and optimizing cleanroom processes
• Overseeing nanofabrication activities within the projects
• Training and mentoring PhD students in fabrication techniques and experimental measurements
Your Profil
Skills
The candidate must hold a PhD in physics. Skills in experimental physics, nanofabrication, low temperature measurements, THz optics, Python programming would be an asset.
Your Work Environment
Institut NÉEL is a CNRS unit (UPR 2940) under agreement with the University Grenoble Alpes. The laboratory is related to the CNRS Physique. It is located in Grenoble, in the heart of a unique scientific, industrial and cultural environment. It is one of the largest French national research institutes for fundamental research in condensed matter physics enriched by interdisciplinary activities at the interfaces with chemistry, engineering and biology. It consists of 450 employees, including 175 researchers.
CNRS is a public, scientific and technological organization.
The core mandate is to identify, to carry out or to have carried out, either alone or with partners, all research that advances science or contributes to the country's economic, social, and cultural progress. Internationally recognized for the excellence of its scientific research, the CNRS is a reference in the world of research and development, as well as for the general public.
The candidate will join the Insitut Néel, and will work with the team: QUantECA - Quantum Electronic Circuits Alps.
