Missions

This postdoct is part of the European project Atto-Zepto, which aims at investigating fundamental physics using ultrasensitive nanomechanical force sensors.
The project aims at developing advanced measurement protocols of force fields, based on the optical readout of the vibrations of suspended nanowires, at investigating the force fields above nanostructures, in particular electrostatic and proximity forces.
The postdoc will be in charge of the experimental developments in optics, nanomechanics , in signal analysis and on the software integration of the measurement protocols. He/she will also be in charge of numerical simulations/modelisations of the system.

Activities

Main activities :
- Advanced signal processing with FPGA techniques
- Development of a compact optical head
- Integration of real-time force sensing capability in the measurement automat.
- Development of new metallic nanowires

Secondary activities :
- joined supervision of the students
- realizing instrument interfaces

Skills

Having a PhD degree in Physics
Optics, Experimental design, Optomechanics and nanomechanics
Skills in Python, C, VHDL programming langages
Numerical simulations with finite element modelling (e.g. Comsol or Meep)

Work Context

The Institut NEEL is one of the largest French national research institutes for fundamental research in condensed matter physics enriched by interdisciplinary activities at the interfaces with chemistry, engineering and biology. It is located in the heart of a unique scientific, industrial and cultural environment. It is part of one of Europe's biggest high-tech environment in micro- and nanoelectronics, right next to the French Alpes.
The postdoc will be realized in the Nano-Optic and Forces team, under the supervision of O. Arcizet and B. Pigeau.
