The post-doctoral student will work on the theory and modelling of coherent quantum engines and quantum Maxwell's demons in cavity quantum electrodynamics devices.
- in the ANR project "Qu-DICE" (Quantum thermoDynamics in Cavity quantum Electrodynamics), the main project objective is to study the laws of thermodynamics if the working substances, batteries and baths are quantum entities.
- the project addresses problems of both fundamental and practical nature, e.g. how to define heat, work and entropy production in the quantum regime ? Is quantum coherence some energetic resource and how can it be evidenced and quantified ? What is the energetic cost of quantum information processing ?
- expertise in theoretical methods of quantum optics, quantum open systems, cavity quantum electrodynamics, numerical skills
- previous experiences in the modelling of quantum optics in the solid-state, and/or circuit quantum electrodynamics, and/or quantum information thermodynamics will be highly appreciated
The research will be conducted in the theory group of A. Auffeves (Institut Néel, Grenoble), in close collaboration with the experimental groups of P. Senellart (C2N, Orsay) and I. Dotsenko/M. Brune (LKB, Collège de France). The Néel partner has developed an expertise in theoretical aspects of quantum thermodynamics, quantum open systems and quantum foundations, in close collaboration with a large network of experimental partners. In this spirit, the work will be theoretical and tightly coupled to the experimental groups of the consortium: the candidate will contribute to the definition and discussion of the experiments as well as their modelling. In addition, the candidate will benefit from the stimulating Grenoble ecosystem for quantum technologies.
The Institut NEEL is one of the largest French national research institutes for fundamental research in condensed matter physics enriched by interdisciplinary activities at the interfaces with chemistry, engineering and biology.
