Job Description
Missions
The postdoctoral researcher will integrate into the research activities of the Quantum Nanoelectronics and Spectroscopy team at the Institut Néel. Their role will involve experimental studies ranging from the fabrication to the very low-temperature measurement of graphene-based superconducting devices operating in the quantum Hall effect regime.
The mission consists in fabricating encapsulated graphene devices and coupling these quantum Hall effect edge channels to superconducting electrodes to realize Josephson junctions. Certain phases of the quantum Hall effect have the specific characteristic of being spin-polarized. The scientific objective will be to study the unconventional nature of the superconductivity induced in these spin-polarized edge channels through electrical conductivity measurements.
Activity
The postdoctoral researcher will fabricate graphene samples, from exfoliation and encapsulation to contact patterning using electron-beam lithography and metal deposition via standard cleanroom processes. They will carry out a systematic study at very low temperatures of hybrid superconductor/quantum Hall effect devices, such as Josephson junctions, through current-voltage characteristic measurements under high magnetic fields. They will participate in the supervision of PhD students and master students.
Your Profil
Skills
• Expertise in nanofabrication (electron-beam lithography, metal deposition, etc.) and van der Waals heterostructure assembly.
• Expertise in very low-temperature and low-noise measurements.
• Strong background in quantum solid-state physics.
Your Work Environment
Institut NÉEL is a CNRS unit (UPR 2940) under agreement with the University Grenoble Alpes. The laboratory is related to the CNRS Physique. It is located in Grenoble, in the heart of a unique scientific, industrial and cultural environment. It is one of the largest French national research institutes for fundamental research in condensed matter physics enriched by interdisciplinary activities at the interfaces with chemistry, engineering and biology. It consists of 450 employees, including 175 researchers.
CNRS is a public, scientific and technological organization.
The core mandate is to identify, to carry out or to have carried out, either alone or with partners, all research that advances science or contributes to the country's economic, social, and cultural progress. Internationally recognized for the excellence of its scientific research, the CNRS is a reference in the world of research and development, as well as for the general public.
The hosting team at Institut Néel is QuNES - Quantum Nano-Electronics and Spectroscopy, which forms part of the QUEST department.
