Job Description

Missions

Magnonics is an emerging subfield of spintronics that focuses on the manipulation of collective spin excitations in magnetic materials. The use of magnons for classical or quantum information transport is being considered as a long-term prospect. In the present project, magnonics is of interest for engineering static and dynamic magnetic fields, with potential applications in magnetic resonance involving individual spins.

The position aims to develop low-temperature experiments involving magnonic systems and microwave circuits. The project will investigate the properties of YIG microstructures coupled to a superconducting resonator at very low temperatures.
The project includes measurements of microstructured thin-film YIG devices. In particular, the researcher will perform microwave measurements in a dilution refrigerator to characterize magnons in microstructured YIG and investigate photon–magnon coupling.

Activity

• Measurement of superconducting microwave circuits.
• Low-temperature measurements of coupled magnonic and microwave photon systems.

Your Profil

Skills

• PhD in physics, magnonics, or a related field.
• Good written and spoken English communication skills.
• Experience in low-temperature measurements and fabrication would be an advantage.

Your Work Environment

Institut Néel is a large research laboratory covering a broad range of condensed matter physics. The Quanteca group has recognized expertise in the investigation of quantum and mesoscopic phenomena in nanoelectronic devices at low temperatures.
This project is a collaboration between the Quanteca group and other research teams at Institut Néel, including the Micromagnetic and Nanomagnetic Materials groups. It is part of the PEPR PRESQUILE programme, specifically the research theme focused on exploring spintronic tools for the coherent manipulation of spins.

Institut Néel is one of France's leading national research institutes for fundamental research in condensed matter physics, with interdisciplinary activities at the interfaces of chemistry, engineering, and biology.
The laboratory is affiliated with the CNRS Institute of Physics (CNRS Physique). It is located at the heart of a unique scientific, industrial, and cultural environment, within one of Europe's largest high-technology ecosystems in microelectronics and nanoelectronics, close to the French Alps.

The hosting team at Institut Néel is QuantECA (Quantum Electronic Circuits Alps), which is part of the QUEST department.
