Job Description

Missions

The candidate will work on the high throughput fabrication and characterization of various types of magnetic materials in thin film form. Particular focus will be placed on commissioning an in-house developed magneto-optical magnetometer. The project is part of a larger effort around data driven development of functional magnetic materials within the Micro and Nano Magnetism team at Institut NEEL.

The post-doc will work within a team which is developing and applying the high throughput combinatorial approach to develop magnetic materials (hard magnets, magnetocaloric materials…) with reduced or no critical elements. The post-doc will be responsible for: commissioning a new variable temperature magneto-optical magnetometer, developing experimental protocols for its use, and integrating it into the combinatorial workflow. In parallel, the post-doc will study the impact of element substitution and processing parameters on the functional properties of particular material systems.

Your Profil

Skills

- PhD degree in experimental physics or materials science
- solid basis in magnetism
- hands-on experience with Magnet Optical Kerr Effect magnetometry
- experience in thin film fabrication and characterization of structural and magnetic properties
- experience with coding (python) for data analysis
- good spoken and written English
- good communication skills, ability to write reports/articles
- team work

Institut NÉEL is a CNRS unit (UPR 2940) under agreement with the University Grenoble Alpes. The laboratory is related to the CNRS Physique. It is located in Grenoble, in the heart of a unique scientific, industrial and cultural environment. It is one of the largest French national research institutes for fundamental research in condensed matter physics enriched by interdisciplinary activities at the interfaces with chemistry, engineering and biology.
