Missions
In the present job offer, at the interface between nanoscience and neuroscience, we will develop a new generation of bioelectronic imager based on a high-density array of transparent field-effect transistors (GFET) for tracking in vitro activity evolution in neural networks. The candidate will develop the complete chain, from device fabrication, electrical measurements in vitro (ie cell culture conditions), surface functionalization for specific detection applications, allowing for a complete comprehension of physical phenomena involved and the optimization for the graphene biosensor.
Activités
- Design and fabrication of the graphene-based device in a cleanroom environment
- characterization of the device's electronic and sensing properties
- surface functionalization for specific sensing applications
- detection and monitoring of neuronal activity in vitro (cultured cells, P1 level)
- spike sorting algorithms and analysis of extracellular recordings
- publication of results.
Compétences
The candidate must have a solid knowledge of physics of 2D material or semiconductors and in nanoelectronics. Clean-room fabrication, electronics of measurement systems, notion of chemical physics, surface physics or electrochemistry would be appreciated to better understand the interaction at the interface with the top gate liquids/cells. The candidate is expected to enjoy experimental work and the development of adapted measurement protocols. Scientific curiosity, motivation, creativity, tenacity are mandatory qualities in order to take full advantage of the scientific environment.
Contexte de travail
Institut NÉEL is a CNRS research unit (UPR2940) related to CNRS Physique, with an agreement with the University of Grenoble Alpes. It is one of the largest French research institutes for fundamental research in condensed matter, enriched by interdisciplinary activities at the interface of chemistry, engineering, and biology. It employs 450 people, including 175 researchers, and is located on the CNRS Grenoble Campus, at the center of a unique scientific, industrial, and cultural environment in the heart of the French Alps.
The candidate will be hosted at Institut NÉEL in the Thermodynamics and Biophysics of Small Systems team (TPS) on an ANR project in the field of nanoscience and neuroscience. The group dedicated to this project is composed of a researcher and two permanent engineers, and two doctoral students, all highly enthusiastic and dynamically contributing to the emergence of these new instrumentation and sensors useful for both fundamental and applied sciences, particularly in the field of health. The candidate will benefit from the complementary expertise and know-how acquired between the two supervisors in neurosensing and nanoelectronics (C. Delacour, Neel Institut, Grenoble), in biochemistry (Y. Coffinier, IEMN Lille), and from the collaboration with experts in the field of spike sorting algorithms and analysis of extracellular recordings (P. Yger, LilNCog, Lille) and neuromorphic/electrical engineering (S. Wood, F. Alibart, LN2 Sherbrook).
