Missions

The postdoctoral researcher will contribute to the theoretical development of concepts related to altermagnetism and its consequences on physical properties. This includes the identification of novel candidate materials, the study of symmetry properties associated with magnetic order, and the prediction of experimentally accessible signatures. The successful candidate will play a central role in the scientific coordination of the project and will interact closely with our experimental collaborators.

Activités

The postdoctoral researcher will carry out first-principles calculations (density functional theory and beyond) to characterize the electronic and magnetic properties of altermagnetic materials. This includes analyzing magnetic and electronic band structures, spin textures, and symmetry properties. The researcher will also contribute to the selection of promising materials, the interpretation of experimental data, and the dissemination of results through scientific publications and presentations.

Compétences

The successful candidate should:
- Be proficient in running first-principles calculations (DFT, ab initio codes)
- Have expertise in magnetism and magnetic symmetry analysis
- Hold a PhD in condensed matter physics physics or theoretical material science
- Demonstrate experience in scientific writing and publication
- Be able to work independently and as part of a collaborative research environment

Contexte de travail

The project will take place at the Institut Néel (Grenoble, France), within the Theory of Condensed Matter group (TMC). It is funded through the PEPR-SPIN program which brings together theoretical and experimental efforts to advance the understanding and potential use of altermagnets in spintronics. The postdoctoral researcher will work in close collaboration with experimental partners in France and abroad.

The Institut NÉEL is a CNRS unit (UPR 2940) under agreement with the University Grenoble Alpes. The laboratory is related to the CNRS Physique. It is located in Grenoble, in the heart of a unique scientific, industrial and cultural environment. It is one of the largest French national research institutes for fundamental research in condensed matter physics enriched by interdisciplinary activities at the interfaces with chemistry, engineering and biology. It consists of 450 employees, including 175 researchers.

Le poste se situe dans un secteur relevant de la protection du potentiel scientifique et technique (PPST), et nécessite donc, conformément à la réglementation, que votre arrivée soit autorisée par l'autorité compétente du MESR.
