Missions

In recent years, a class of powerful “quantum inspired” algorithms have started to emerge, for a large part in connection with tensor network based many-body techniques. These techniques naturally lie in between quantum computers and their applications. They can be used to emulate the former or formulate certain problems in a framework suitable for quantum hardware. Their development is a top priority for the theoretical and experimental research conducted in the host laboratory.

Activities

- You will be in charge in leading a theoretical activity on this topic in collaboration with the French EPIQ consortium
- You will design and implement new types of algorithms and use them to address the main challenges of the quantum many-body problem
- You will take part in the supervision of PhD students and postdocs

Skills

- You have a strong background in many-body theory and the associated numerical algorithms with at least two years after PhD.
- Previous exposure to tensor network formalism would be a strong asset.
- A thorough understanding of modern programming languages, preferably compiled, is absolutely necessary.

Work Context

You will be based at the Institut Néel in Grenoble. You will be expected to work in relative autonomy but in collaboration with the rest of the consortium, especially with CEA/Pheliqs.

The research will be carried out at the Institut Néel, benefiting from a large pool of local research and with existing international collaborations.
The postdoc researcher will be integrated in the "Theory of quantum circuits" team of the "QUantic Electronics, Surfaces and spinTronics" (QUEST) department.

The Institut NÉEL is a CNRS unit (UPR 2940) under agreement with the University Grenoble Alpes. The laboratory is related to the CNRS Physique. It is located in Grenoble, in the heart of a unique scientific, industrial and cultural environment. It is one of the largest French national research institutes for fundamental research in condensed matter physics enriched by interdisciplinary activities at the interfaces with chemistry, engineering and biology. It consists of 450 employees, including 175 researchers.

The position is located in a sector under the protection of scientific and technical potential (PPST), and therefore requires, in accordance with the regulations, that your arrival is authorized by the competent authority of the MESR.
