Missions

The demand for magnets with increasingly intense magnetic fields is high, as magnetic induction proves to be an indispensable tool, particularly for understanding materials. The exceptional properties of high critical temperature (hTc) materials pave the way for magnetic fields of greater intensity while still being "durable," thanks to very low power consumption. The implementation of hTc superconducting materials presents several scientific and technical challenges, especially in the creation of magnets. The mission of this fixed-term contract (CDD) will initially involve contributing to the development of basic technological building blocks for these magnets, specifically modular winding elements, to validate them under operational conditions. The analysis of results will subsequently inform the design of a high-volume and ambitious intense field magnet, meeting the requirements outlined by the DGA within the Archymed project. Then, the CDD will focus on the finalization of the design, the fabrication and preliminary testing of the elements of the Archymed magnet.

Activités

- Definition of objectives for Archymed project prototype windings and their characteristics
- Conducting tests on prototype windings and analyzing results
- Presentation of conclusions in Archymed project follow-up meetings with partners
- Participation in defining characteristics of a winding machine adapted to the project and its development
- Participation in the design of the final Archymed magnet, including elementary windings (coils), and its protection system
- Testing and validation of these windings with regards to the project objectives.

Compétences

- Engineering or doctoral level experience in applied superconductivity.
- Proficient in finite element numerical modeling tools.
- Experience in scientific instrumentation, particularly in cryogenic and/or high-field environments.

Contexte de travail

This work will take place at the Institut Néel, CNRS, Grenoble. The Institut Néel is a CNRS Research Unit (UPR2940) with approximately 450 members, including 175 researchers or teaching researchers, 130 engineers and technicians, and 145 non-permanent staff.
The activities cover:

- Quantum, molecular, and wide-bandgap electronics
- Correlated systems, quantum fluids, and superconductivity
- Materials: development, structure, and function Instrumentation.

The hosting team for this fixed-term contract (CDD) is the applied superconductivity research group within the MagSup team (Magnetism and Superconductivity). This team is part of the Department of Condensed Matter and Low Temperatures (MCBT). The candidate will be integrated into the applied superconductivity team, under the supervision of Pascal Tixador, in collaboration with Arnaud Badel and Julien Vialle (cryogenics department).
