Missions
A position for a postdoc researcher in plant molecular biology is open within the team "Mechanisms of small RNA biogenesis and action". The candidate will lead a project aimed at understanding the evolution of novel RNA polymerases in plants and their role in transposon repression.
Activités
The team aims to characterize the role of small RNAs and epigenetic processes in genome surveillance in Arabidopsis thaliana. The candidate will study the molecular machinery that targets transposons and protein subunits in related machineries across embryophytes, using plant transformation, genome editing, phylogenetics, RNA sequencing, proteomics, and ONT sequencing approaches.
The recruited scientist will:
- Use CRISPR/Cas9 to better understand the epigenetic regulation of genes and transposable elements in plants
- Conduct bioinformatics analyses to enable site-directed mutagenesis in selected candidate proteins
- Conduct a range of techniques (electrophoresis, immunological techniques, genotyping, cloning, sequencing, PCR, microscopy), while adapting experimental conditions
- Collaborate and discuss these results with team members, communicate research results (seminars, publications, databases, general public)
Compétences
- PhD in plant biology and an excellent academic record
- Solid experience in plant molecular biology and cell biology
- Knowledge of health and safety regulations
- Experience with specific software tools (e.g. Geneious, Multiple Sequence Alignment (MUSCLE), RStudio, ImageJ)
- The required level of English will be B2 or higher
Contexte de travail
The Institut de biologie moléculaire des plantes (http://www.ibmp.cnrs.fr/) in Strasbourg is the CNRS's largest research unit dedicated to plant biology. It currently gathers together 20 research teams and numerous technological platforms. The team "Mechanisms of small RNA biogenesis and action" is led by T. Blevins (Research Director) and includes a research engineer, a lecturer, and two doctoral students (University of Strasbourg). The recruited scientist will work in collaboration with a doctoral student from the team and will be supervised by T. Blevins.
