Job Description
Missions
The candidate's main task will be to set up databases (at employment zone and département level) containing a range of socio-economic indicators (indices of location, specialisation, density, structure of the working population, etc.) and to integrate into them the effects of the economic crisis.) and to integrate structural and residual effects in order to be able to carry out a set of analyses on the relationships between i) the growth or performance of companies on the one hand and the characteristics of the area in which they are located on the other; ii) territorial disparities and iii) the ecological bifurcation of areas. He/she will compile these unique databases from ACOSS, INSEE and individual company data available on the CASD. The data will then be analysed using spatial econometric models and techniques, and the results will be interpreted in the light of the literature on the subject.
Activity
The database finalised at the end of the contract will ultimately: i) serve as a common asset for the "territory" team of the i3-CERNA laboratory working on a research on this subject and ii) be made available, as a reference, to other researchers and teams and thus become a new shared tool in geographical economics. Both the database and the analyses carried out will be promoted through joint publications with the project's research team. The candidate will be invited to develop strategies for analysing the various forms of proximity (geographical and cognitive), and will propose new local indicators, particularly in relation to the ecological transition of territories, which is at the heart of the research project.
Your Profil
Skills
Required: - Economics of the firm (theoretical and applied); - Geographical economics (theoretical and applied); - Spatial econometrics (Geoda, Stata commands and R codes); - Panel data econometrics; - Cartography (QGIS); writing skills in French and English Appreciated: - Interest in the economics of innovation and regional development; - Project management; - Creativity, self-learning ability, ability to make proposals; - Autonomy; - A liking for teamwork.
Your Work Environment
The context in which this scientific activity is proposed is that of climate disruption, which calls for a systemic transformation of the economy toward sustainable development. This ecological transition relies on the commitment and behavioral changes of socio-economic actors to implement the necessary transformations at the level of each territory. The relationship between the local and the global is inherent to the ecological transition process itself, which largely depends on the role played by local public actors.
The research objective is to quantitatively study and understand the mechanisms at work at the scale of French employment zones and departments. The goal is to identify vulnerabilities and solutions for adapting to climate change while avoiding mistakes and maladaptations.
The postdoctoral researcher will work within the i3 laboratory, specifically the CERNA team (UMR 9217), located at Mines Paris – PSL. The unit is part of the INSHS (National Institute for Humanities and Social Sciences) and is affiliated with the Economics and Management section of the CNRS National Committee. With approximately 200 members, including over 70 permanent faculty researchers and more than 100 doctoral students, i3 was established in 2012 through the initiative of MINES Paris PSL and Télécom Paris. In 2014, École Polytechnique joined the unit. Its teams are involved in two IDEX projects: Paris-Saclay and PSL. The CERNA team includes 13 faculty researchers and 13 doctoral students working in the fields of industrial economics and innovation, energy economics, and environmental economics.
