Job Description
Missions
This proposal targets the development of a low-cost electrochemical method for extracting uranium from aqueous phases. A significant part of the work will involve the preparation of the electrode and using it in an electrochemical system. Electrochemical techniques will be employed, and characterization using electron microscopy will be carried out. The aim of the project is to demonstrate the feasibility of recovering uranium present in the form of solid salts using this technique.
Activity
Meticulous electrode preparation will be implemented to obtain a nanostructured metal oxide surface via an electrolytic process. Parameters controlling this structuration and the layer thickness will be optimized. Scanning electron microscopy characterization will be performed on each sample. Uranium extraction tests using the prepared electrodes will be conducted. In particular, the method will be tested in the presence of competing ions to evaluate the system's selectivity under realistic conditions.
Your Profil
Skills
The candidate will hold a PhD in electrochemistry and ideally possess practical skills in forming textured oxide layers upon anodization. He/She must be able to work independently and demonstrate strong skills in writing and presenting results.
Your Work Environment
The actual energy crisis that is mainly due to geopolitical tensions is warning France about the necessity to become as less as possible energy-dependent. Indeed, oil, gas and nuclear fuels are not directly available in the french soils. In order to be able to partially feed its energetic demand, in particular the production of electricity, a viable solution would be to extract uranium from see water. This is encouraged by the 20000 kilometers of coasts (including France and overseas departments).
Constraints and risks
As preliminary experiments validating the electrode texturing steps have already been conducted, the risks associated with the first part of the project are relatively limited. The procedures involving uranium extraction tests will be carried out in a confined environment using relatively low concentrations (mg/L).
