Job Description
Missions
The successful candidate will contribute to the PhotoHype project, funded by the French National Research Agency (ANR) as part of the JCJC program. The project aims to improve the sensitivity of nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) for detecting and quantifying low-concentration compounds in complex mixtures. It is based on photo-induced dynamic nuclear polarization (photo-CIDNP), which combines light irradiation with a photosensitizer to enhance the NMR signals of target molecules. The primary objective will be to develop, optimize, and validate photo-CIDNP-enhanced NMR methods, and then apply them to food matrices and mixtures resulting from the electrochemical depolymerization of lignin.
Activity
Optimization of photo-CIDNP experiments on model compounds and mixtures, including the selection of photosensitizers, irradiation conditions, and data acquisition parameters.
Development of quantitative protocols and advanced NMR experiments, as well as evaluation of detection limits, quantification limits, and analytical precision.
Application of the optimized methods to complex samples, including food matrices and products derived from the electrochemical depolymerization of lignin.
Collaboration with partners using LC-HR-MS/MS and EPR to study photodegradation and facilitate the interpretation of photo-CIDNP results.
Your Profil
Skills
Ph.D. in chemistry, physical chemistry, analytical chemistry, or a related field.
Solid theoretical and practical knowledge of solution NMR.
Experience in the development and optimization of experimental methods.
Proficiency in the processing and interpretation of spectroscopic data.
Experimental rigor, independence, and the ability to work within an interdisciplinary team.
Good command of scientific English, both written and spoken.
Preferred but not required:
Experience in programming pulse sequences and using Bruker software.
Knowledge of hyperpolarization, photo-CIDNP, or photochemistry.
Your Work Environment
The successful candidate will join the LCM (UMR 9168) at École Polytechnique, within the school's Department of Chemistry, on the Palaiseau campus of the Institut Polytechnique de Paris. The successful candidate will benefit from an interdisciplinary environment combining research themes at the interfaces of chemistry, with a particular focus on the development of analytical chemistry methods and their applications in environmental chemistry, chemical ecology, and health. The project relies on a Bruker Avance NEO 600 MHz spectrometer, light sources, and LC-HR-MS/MS equipment. Collaborations with groups specializing in RPE, natural product chemistry, and the electrochemical depolymerization of lignin further enrich this environment. The laboratory benefits from the advantages of the École Polytechnique campus, located in the heart of the Saclay Plateau—renowned for its scientific excellence—and thus offers a pleasant working environment.
Constraints and risks
The activities involve handling chemicals and using light sources and a superconducting magnet. They will be carried out in accordance with the laboratory's safety procedures, after the necessary training on the use of the relevant equipment has been completed.
