Missions

The post-doctoral researcher recruited for this position will study and characterise the in vitro and in vivo effects of new chemically optimised metabolic inhibitor molecules for cancer treatment. He/she will study the biological effects (effects on calcium flux, metabolism and cell death, ability to overcome resistance to conventional treatments) and the mechanisms of action of the molecules in collaboration with chemists, clinicians and a galenic researcher. He/she will determine the interest of combining the molecules with other chemotherapies.

- Mastery of various classical biological techniques: animal cell culture, fluorescence microscopy (calcium, mitochondria, cell death), flow cytometry, immunohistochemistry, metabolism, PCR, western blots, etc...
- Training in animal experimentation will be required

Work Context

The pediatrics cancers are a major public health problem despite recent advances in precision cancer medicine (PCM). Indeed, there are still too many cases of relapse compromising the survival of patients. Thus, the researchers of the REFLEX consortium propose to take up the challenge of proposing new drug candidates capable of combating drug resistance in order to limit relapse and metastatic spread. REFLEX is an interdisciplinary project bringing together biologists (Team 1) and chemists (Team 2) with the ambition of rapidly transferring their results to the clinic. This 3-year research project will build on the interdisciplinary expertise accumulated by the researchers of the consortium on (i) the metabolism of paediatric cancer cells, (ii) the bioinformatics approach for the search for bioactive compounds (iii) the medicinal chemistry of natural substances and (iv) nanoformulation. Thus, REFLEX aims to foster therapeutic innovation and nanomedicine to fight paediatric cancers by targeting certain metabolic dysfunctions.
The post-doctoral researcher will be recruited by the CNRS and will work in the UMR 9018 METSY laboratory (Metabolic and systemic aspects of oncogenesis for new therapeutic approaches) under the direction of C. Brenner within team 1: Metabolic plasticity in physio-pathology. The team also has industrial contacts and a willingness to valorise the results of the research. The candidate will work in close collaboration with three other members of METSY, also involved in the project: a PhD student, a researcher in galenics and an ERASMUS student. He/she will participate in all meetings and activities organised by the national consortium.
The METSY laboratory is located in the research pavilion 2 within the Gustave Roussy Institute in Villejuif. The unit is composed of four teams and more than 40 researchers, clinicians, technicians, postdoctoral fellows and PhD students. The laboratory is equipped with state-of-the-art equipment (e.g. fluorescence microscopy, flow cytometry, Seahorse technology, cell culture, etc.) and has full access to the technological platforms (e.g. imaging, genomics, transcriptomics, animal facility) managed by the Institut Gustave Roussy.
