Missions

The selected candidate will work on the design and production of light detectors for CUPID within the framework of the CryoLux experimental program. He/she will also be responsible for their full characterization as well as their installation and operation in underground laboratories. He/she must be prepared to take on technical responsibilities related to light detectors within the CUPID collaboration.

Activités

The tasks of the postdoctoral researcher will be as follows:
• Production of light detectors, using the CUPID-team's evaporators at IJCLab to deposit aluminum electrodes of various geometries on germanium and silicon wafers;
• Assembly and cooling of light detectors to temperatures on the order of 20 mK using the CUPID-team's dilution refrigerator at IJCLab;
• Characterization of light detectors in terms of sensitivity, gain, and leakage currents, including responsibility for the associated data acquisition and analysis;
• Testing of light detectors in the underground laboratories of Canfranc and Gran Sasso;
• Development of innovative pile-up rejection methods and algorithms using the signals from the light detectors.

Compétences

Experience working in a clean room, with thin-film deposition machines, and with cryogenic detectors is desired. Strong proficiency in data analysis from nuclear detectors is also required. Experience in coordinating small working groups will be a major asset. Good command of English (level B1 of the European Framework) and the ability to work as part of a team are essential.

Contexte de travail

The postdoc will work within the CUPID team at IJCLab. This team is highly recognized in the international community for the development of low-temperature detectors, with a wide range of applications. The team plays an essential role in the CUPID experiment, taking on several responsibilities. In particular, it is responsible for the production, optimization, and large-scale characterization of the CUPID light detectors. The team is part of the Astroparticle and Cosmology division of IJCLab (Laboratoire de Physique des 2 Infinis Irène Joliot-Curie), located on the campus of the Faculty of Sciences in Orsay, France, and created in January 2020 following the merger of five former CNRS/IN2P3 and CNRS/INP laboratories: CSNSM, IMNC, IPNO, LAL, and LPT. The laboratory is under the supervision of CNRS, Université Paris-Saclay, and Université de Paris. IJCLab's research topics, supported by significant technical capabilities (about 280 engineers and technicians), include nuclear physics, high-energy physics, astroparticles and cosmology, theoretical physics, accelerators and particle detectors, as well as technical research and development and associated applications for energy, health, and the environment.

Le poste se situe dans un secteur relevant de la protection du potentiel scientifique et technique (PPST), et nécessite donc, conformément à la réglementation, que votre arrivée soit autorisée par l'autorité compétente du MESR.
