Job Description

Missions

The postdoctoral researcher will be part of the IJCLab team responsible for developing and managing the gSPEC research activities, on measurements of nuclear moments, nuclear isomers, as well as decay spectroscopy in a very close collaboration with IPHC. He/she will work together with researchers from the NEXT team in the Nuclear Physics Department of IJCLab, in the framework of the new instrumentation research and developments, and the preparation and future realization of cutting-edge spectroscopy measurements at various facilities as GSI/FAIR, ALTO, GANIL/SPIRAL2, RIBF/RIKEN. The researcher will be a member of the collaborative partnership between IJCLab/IPHC (IN2P3/CNRS) and these institutions.

Activity

The post-doctoral fellow will be in charge of the simulations, design and tests of the first prototypes and detection systems for the new experimental apparatus.

He/ she shall take an active part in the preparations and the conduct of first tests and physics experiments and also perform data analysis on the relevant data, publish and present the results at conferences.

The researcher shall also be involved in other spectroscopy-related activities of the team at the RIKEN/RIBF factory.

Your Profil

Skills

The candidate should hold a doctorate in experimental nuclear physics and proven research skills, evidenced by a least one physics and/or one technical publication e.g. as the first/second author, related to experimental nuclear physics and/or new developments. Other essential criteria for this post are an experience with GEANT4 simulations, ROOT, sound knowledge in nuclear spectroscopy, and ideally, nuclear moments.
An asset would be experience in detector/electronics developments and knowledge of experimental techniques used in nuclear physics.
It is important that the candidate has a very positive attitude to working in a team, is autonomous, and has fluent spoken and written English.

Your Work Environment

The Irène Joliot-Curie Physics Laboratory of 2 Infinities (IJCLab) is a UMR laboratory of the CNRS/IN2P3, the University of Paris-Saclay, and the University of Paris. It is located on the campus of the University of Paris-Saclay in Orsay, 20 km south of Paris, and easily accessible by RER. IJCLab was born in 2020, merging five scientific units (CSNSM, IMNC, IPN, LAL, LPT).

The staff consists of nearly 560 permanent (340 engineers, technicians, administrators, 220 researchers) and approximately 200 non-permanent researchers, including 120 doctoral students.

The research themes of the laboratory span from nuclear physics, high energy physics, theoretical physics, astroparticles, astrophysics, cosmology, and particle accelerators to energy, environment, and health. IJCLab has very significant technical capacities in all major fields required for the design, development, and implementation of experimental devices for its scientific activity and accelerator complexes, as well as the design, and development of instruments worldwide.
