Metastable epialleles are alleles that are variably expressed in genetically identical individuals. These epialleles are established during early development by epigenetic modifications in a process influenced by stress and the environment. The epiallele's state can subsequently be maintained throughout development and adult life. All known examples of epialleles involve the insertion of a transposable element, whose variable methylation among individuals correlates with local gene expression. However, the mechanisms underlying interindividual metastability are unknown. We have purified and established the proteome of one such transposable element and found that, in addition, it has the potential to contact multiple chromosomal regions, that we suspect alter such transposable element silencing capacity.


The researcher will explore this mechanism by using cutting-edge chromosome conformation methods, genetics and mouse models, chromatin proteomics and biochemistry.


a PhD in chromatin/genetics/epigenetics/genomics research
a proven track record of research activities
Knowledge in chromatin biochemistry and epigenomics approches (Hi-C, ChiP-seq, RNA-seq, etc...)
Experience with long DNA sequencing would be a plus.
A letter of recommendation from at least the PhD supervisor
Communicating in english
