Job Description
Missions
The project aims to investigate the quantum properties of polariton microcavities in semiconductor microstructures. The successful candidate will be responsible for the experimental characterization of these systems using low-temperature (4 K) optical spectroscopy, potentially under high magnetic fields. They will also develop numerical models of the structures to support the interpretation and optimization of the experimental results.
Activity
1- Operation of a 4 K cryostat and implementation of resonant spectroscopy experiments using tunable lasers and angle- and energy-resolved detection.
2- Setup and calibration of experimental apparatus, including optical alignment and control of measurement parameters.
3- Data acquisition and analysis, including spectra, images, and mode mapping.
4- Development of numerical simulations in Python to reproduce the experiments and investigate the quantum properties of the microcavities.
5- Presentation and discussion of results during weekly group meetings.
Your Profil
Skills
1- Experience in experimental optics, including the use of lasers, spectrometers, and cryostats.
2- Proficiency in Python for data analysis and scientific computing (NumPy, SciPy, Matplotlib).
3- Experience operating experimental equipment such as oscilloscopes, CCD cameras, and electromagnets. Knowledge of numerical modelling techniques, including transfer-matrix methods and Hamiltonian diagonalization.
4- Ability to work independently and rigorously, as well as collaboratively within a multidisciplinary research environment.
Your Work Environment
The position will be based at the Centre for Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (C2N) in Palaiseau, within the research group led by Sylvain Ravets and Jacqueline Bloch. The successful candidate will join a dynamic team working on quantum polaritonics, with regular interactions with nanofabrication (cleanroom) and theory teams.
The laboratory is equipped with liquid-helium cryostats, high-resolution spectrometers, laser sources, and superconducting magnets providing magnetic fields of up to 7 T.
This position is located in a sector subject to the Protection of Scientific and Technical Potential (PPST) regulations. In accordance with applicable regulations, the successful candidate's appointment is therefore subject to authorization by the competent authority of the French Ministry of Higher Education and Research (MESR).
Constraints and risks
1- Work in a cryogenic environment.
2- Work with high magnetic fields (up to 7 T). Compliance with applicable safety procedures is mandatory.
3- Work with lasers. Compliance with applicable laser safety procedures is mandatory.
4- Cleanroom work during sample preparation or in collaboration with fabrication teams. Appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) must be worn.
Compensation and benefits
Compensation
Between €3,500 and €4,000 gross per month, depending on experience and in accordance with the applicable CNRS salary scale.
Annual leave and RTT
44 jours
Remote Working practice and compensation
