Job Description
Missions
The person hired for this position will explore the physics of Bose-Einstein condensates in open systems. This is an emerging field of research, in which many fundamental physical questions remain open. Cavity polaritons—hybrid quasiparticles emerging from the strong coupling of light and electronic excitations—constitute a particularly well-suited and versatile system for exploring this physics. An optical excitation triggers Bose-Einstein condensation, and analysis of the light escaping from the cavity provides insight into the physical properties of the condensate. Experimental research will be conducted using semiconductor cavities fabricated using the nanotechnology resources available at C2N. The objective of the work will be to study the fluctuations (in phase, intensity, etc.) that develop in 1D or 2D condensates and the universality classes to which these condensates belong.
Activity
The hired person will contribute to:
- the design of the cavities, which will then be fabricated at C2N;
- the realization of advanced optical spectroscopy at cryogenic temperatures. This will include photoluminescence, interferometry, and pump-probe experiments;
- analyzing and interpreting experimental data in collaboration with theorists in the field.
Your Profil
Skills
The hired person must have:
- experience in optical spectroscopy techniques;
- solid knowledge in solid-state physics, optics, and quantum mechanics;
- skills in developing numerical simulation codes and programming experimental; instrument controls;
- ability to work as part of a team.
Your Work Environment
The successful candidate will join the team led by Jacqueline Bloch and Sylvain Ravets in the Photonics Department at C2N. This laboratory is located at the heart of Paris-Saclay University and features a large nanotechnology facility. The successful candidate will work with Ph.D. students. They will participate in weekly group meetings, where they will present and discuss their results.
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to present their results at national and international conferences.
