Job Description

Missions

The post-doc centers on the realization, characterization and measurement of the structural and transport properties of superconducting devices made entirely out of silicon. Superconducting Si thin layers will be realized by Gas Immersion Laser Doping or Pulsed Laser Induced Epitaxy, allowing the fabrication of ultra-doped Si:B layers, well above the B solubility limit in Si. The films will be characterized by X-Ray Diffraction, Transmission Electron Microscopy (for their lattice structure and crystalline defects) and transport measurements (both in the normal and superconducting state). Devices will be realized by clean room standard micro-fabrication, and will consist in thin lines operating in DC conditions. The devices will be characterized by low temperature measurements in a dilution refrigerator and as a function of temperature and light irradiation.

Activity

The activities planned during the postdoctoral fellowship include:
- heavily boron-doped silicon (Si:B) thin film epitaxial growth using nanosecond laser doping within the EPLA group at C2N.
- characterisation of the doping profile and structural properties of the superconducting films and devices using X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and secondary ion mass spectrometry (SIMS), with the support of the engineers from the C2N technological platform.
- design and fabrication of superconducting nanowires, taking advantage of the nanofabrication facilities available in the C2N cleanroom. Electron-beam lithography, laser lithography, reactive ion etching, wet chemical etching, and metal deposition techniques will be employed.
- low-temperature electronic transport measurements using either an adiabatic demagnetization refrigerator or a dilution refrigerator, as a function of temperature, magnetic field, and optical illumination, through collaborations with the Laboratoire de Physique des Solides and the Detector Physics group at IJCLab.
- Analyze the experimental data in light of the existing scientific literature.
- Write scientific publications and presenting the results at international conferences to disseminate the research findings.

Your Profil

Skills

Experience in
- experimental solid state physics
- superconductivity/ quantum devices
- clean room micro-nano fabrication
- optical setups in a weak photon flux regime
- low temperature and/or high frequency transport measurements under light illumination

Your Work Environment

The post-doctoral researcher (M/F) will be welcomed in EPLA group, in the Materials Department of C2N. The work will be performed in collaboration with the clean room staff (PIMENT) and characterization platform (PANAM). A ongoing collaboration with Laboratoire de Physique des Solides (Unviersité Paris Saclay) will allow access to a dilution refrigerator.

Constraints and risks

The researcher (M/F) will work with a class II lasers present in the nanosecond laser anneal setup and with chemical products (acid/bases) used for micro-nano fabrication in a clean room environment
