Missions

As part of the French research projet « ANR INSET » and relative to instrumental developments specific to the C2N laboratory, we want to fabricate van der Waals heterostructures combining two-dimensional (2D) materials of type MX2 (M=Metal, X=Chalcogen, type WS2, WSe2) and MX (InSe, In2Se3). The scientific aim is to understand the interactions between these different materials according to the thickness and respective orientations (twist angle) of the different layers. Two sources of starting material are considered, exfoliated sample from commercial bulk crystals and few layer obtained directly from Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD) at C2N. Next, van der Waals heterostructures will be fabricated either by direct CVD growth or by dry transfer using the group's motorized transfer station. Finally, the assembled heterostructures will be characterized by optical methods at the C2N laboratory using Raman spectroscopy, polarized Raman spectroscopy, photoluminescence, and second harmonic generation.

Activities

* CVD growth of MX2 materials: WSe2, WS2, and MX: InSe In2Se3
* Direct CVD growth of MX/MX2 van der Waals heterostructures
* Fabrication of MX2/MX van der Waals heterostructures by mechanical transfer and assembly
* Optical characterization of 2D materials using Raman spectroscopy, photoluminescence (PL), and Second Harmonic Generation (SHG)

Skills

- Ability to work independently and organize activities with weekly reporting
- Teamwork, interacting with doctoral students in the laboratory
- In-depth knowledge of van der Waals heterostructure fabrication by transfer techniques
- In-depth knowledge of Raman, photoluminescence, and SHG optical characterization of 2D materials
- Full command of scientific English (written, spoken)

Basic knowledge of CVD growth of 2D materials would be a plus.

Work Context

The work will be carried out in the clean room of the Center for Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (C2N) in Palaiseau (France). The C2N is a joint research unit between Paris Saclay University and the French National Center for Scientific Research, comprising approximately 200 researchers and 200 doctoral and postdoctoral students.

The position is located in a sector under the protection of scientific and technical potential (PPST), and therefore requires, in accordance with the regulations, that your arrival is authorized by the competent authority of the MESR.

Constraints and risks

Works in cleanroom environnement, laser risks related to the plannerd optical characterizations.
