Job Description
Missions
The successful candidate will collaborate with the IAS Cosmology Team to extract the gravitational lensing signature from measurements of cosmic microwave background (CMB) anisotropies obtained by the Simons Observatory. They will also use these measurements in cross-correlation with photometric and spectroscopic data from the Euclid mission to constrain cosmological parameters.
Activity
Develop analysis pipelines to extract CMB lensing maps.
Design robustness and consistency tests of CMB lensing estimates.
Infer cosmological parameters from data.
Collaborate with members of the IAS cosmology team in the analysis of Euclid data in cross-correlation with CMB probes (tSZ/kSZ effect, CMB lensing).
Present results at national and international conferences.
Your Profil
Skills
PhD in astrophysics, cosmology, or a closely related field.
Experience in statistical analysis of CMB and/or gravitational lensing data.
Proficiency in Bayesian statistics and numerical simulations.
Strong knowledge of collaborative coding tools (e.g., Git) and excellent programming skills (e.g., Python, C/C++, with JAX as a plus).
Your Work Environment
The Institut d'Astrophysique Spatiale (IAS) is a joint research unit of CNRS and Université Paris-Saclay, located on the Orsay campus. With a team of 130 researchers, engineers, and technicians, IAS maintains strong collaborations with national and international space agencies (including CNES, ESA, JAXA, NASA) for the development and operation of space missions.
IAS benefits from a vast international network of partner institutions through its involvement in major projects such as the Simons Observatory, Euclid, SKA, BISOU, FOSSIL, and Athena. In particular, IAS has been a key contributor to the Euclid mission since its inception, playing leading roles in the Science Ground Segment (OU-MER) and scientific working groups, including CMB cross-correlations.
The successful candidate will join the Cosmology Group, which comprises 10 permanent members, along with 12 PhD students and postdoctoral researchers. They will have access to high-performance computing resources at IAS and Université Paris-Saclay, as well as national and international facilities supporting the analysis of Euclid and Simons Observatory data (e.g., Cineca, NERSC). Additionally, the candidate will benefit from the cultural and sports activities offered through the well-being at work program of Université Paris-Saclay.
