Job Description
Missions
The successful candidate will work on a national project, the PEPR IRIMA—Integrated Risk Management for More Resilient Societies in the Era of Global Change—within the “Overseas Risks” targeted project and the work package on tsunami risks in the Indian Ocean, particularly in Mayotte. Their primary responsibilities will include developing multi-agent system models to simulate various crisis recovery scenarios, as well as the socioeconomic consequences of a tsunami, and the capacity for business continuity and post-tsunami recovery—drawing in particular on lessons learned (RETEX) from Cyclone Chido, which struck Mayotte on December 14, 2024.
Activity
The successful candidate will be responsible for developing a spatiotemporal model of the various stages of crisis recovery and business continuity/resumption, leveraging data on damage, repair, and reconstruction following recent crises and disasters, to simulate the recovery capabilities of the socio-territorial system following a potential tsunami using a multi-agent system model, with the aim of integrating these elements into the model chain developed within the “Risks in Overseas Territories” project of the PEPR IRIMA, in collaboration with partners outside the laboratory (IPGP, BRGM, LAGAM, INRIA).

Your Work Environment
The Laboratory of Physical Geography, Quaternary and Contemporary Environments (UMR 8591, “Risks: From Hazard Characterization to Societal Responses” research theme) has approximately 55 members whose research spans both basic and applied research areas, including, for example, the reconstruction of Quaternary paleoenvironments, the historical evolution of hydrological systems, the analysis of biodiversity, the effects of global climate change on mountain environments, the assessment of the dynamics of natural hazards, and the analysis of societal responses.
The successful candidate will work within the “Risks: From Hazard Assessment to Societal Responses” research theme, which consists of 8 permanent members, 6 doctoral students, and 1 non-permanent researcher. The work conducted within this theme is structured around three major scientific challenges: i) the search for high-resolution and/or innovative proxies, signals, and indicators for the detection and characterization of extreme events in the context of global change; ii) the analysis of socio-ecosystem responses to extreme events and recurring hazards of moderate intensity; iii) the dissemination of scientific results that can be practically applied by stakeholders in risk management (ranging from citizens to decision-makers and the nonprofit sector, including managers). The candidate will also collaborate with other partner teams involved in the research project, in particular the IPGP, the LAGAM, and the BRGM.
The position falls under the Scientific and Technical Potential Protection (PPST) category and therefore, in accordance with regulations, requires that your appointment be authorized by the competent authority at the MESR.
