Job Description

Missions

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) is undergoing its 7th Assessment cycle, with the release of its 7th Assessment Report (AR7) planned before the end of 2028. Chapter Scientists (CS) play essential roles in the IPCC report drafting process. The CS role is usually undertaken by an early career scientist who supports a specific chapter, assisting on the technical tasks for the assessment such as data management and analysis and figure development. The CS role is a unique opportunity for early career scientists to gain experience and knowledge of the IPCC process and of the latest climate change research. As a CS, the successful candidate will be invited to be a contributing author to the IPCC chapter and may, where appropriate, be a co-author of academic articles directly related to the work carried out. Part of the position may include research time, such as the promotion of previous scientific work, to be discussed depending on the candidate's profile.

We are seeking a Chapter Scientist to support the author team of Chapter 3 in the IPCC Working Group III contribution to AR7, on projected futures in the context of sustainable development and climate change.
This position is opened for 21 months, and may be extended depending on the assessment calendar and conditional on additional funding. The position will be based in Nogent-sur-Marne at CIRED, the International Research Center on Environment and Development, a joint research unit of CNRS, Ecole des Ponts et Chaussées, AgroParisTech, Cirad and EHESS. The CS will be in direct contact with Céline Guivarch at CIRED, and report to her. He or she will also work with the two other Coordinating Lead Authors (CLAs) Hala Abou-Ali (University Cairo, Egypt) and Evelina Trutnevyte (University of Geneva, Switzerland), the other Chapter Scientist Amira El Ayouty (University Cairo, Egypt), as well as with the chapter's team of Lead Authors and Review Editors (https://apps.ipcc.ch/report/authors/). The topics covered in the chapter can be found in the approved outline of the report (https://www.ipcc.ch/site/assets/uploads/2025/03/Doc_13-WGIII_AR7_Chapter_Outline.pdf).
