Job Description

Missions

The postdoctoral researcher will join the Multimode Quantum Optics team at Laboratoire Kastler Brossel. They will carry out experimental work on two setups. The first is based on an optical parametric oscillator in the near infrared. The second operates in single-pass configuration at telecom wavelengths. These setups are used to generate and characterize multimode quantum states, both Gaussian (squeezed states, cluster states) and non-Gaussian (photon subtraction or addition). They will also take part in supervising the team's PhD students.

Activity

• Optimize multimode homodyne detection on the telecom setup.
• Study detection by parametric amplification, an alternative to homodyne detection offering a large bandwidth and good tolerance to losses.
• Generate time-frequency cluster states.
• Perform post-selection by photon counting with superconducting nanowire single-photon detectors (SNSPDs).
• Characterize integrated parametric components (nonlinear thin-film lithium niobate waveguides).
• Co-supervise PhD students, write papers and present results at conferences.

Your Profil

Skills

• Strong background in quantum physics and in multimode, continuous-variable quantum optics.
• Experimental expertise in nonlinear optics and ability to carry out theoretical calculations and simulations.
• Experience with optical parametric amplification, especially in the multimode regime, will be highly appreciated, as will experience in the characterization of nonlinear photonic chips (thin-film lithium niobate waveguides, measurement of squeezing and multimode quantum states). These skills will help evolve the setups towards all-optical measurement schemes and integrated platforms.
• Soft skills: teamwork, initiative, scientific integrity.

Your Work Environment

The position is based at Laboratoire Kastler Brossel (Sorbonne Université, CNRS, ENS-PSL, Collège de France), on the Pierre et Marie Curie campus (towers 23-13, Paris 5th arrondissement). The postdoctoral researcher will work within the Multimode Quantum Optics team, alongside PhD students and permanent researchers, in an international environment. The team has national and international collaborations.
