Reference : UMR8552-HANLEJ-001
Number of position : 1
Workplace : PARIS 05
Date of publication : 22 July 2025
Type of Contract : Researcher in FTC
Contract Period : 3 months
Expected date of employment : 1 October 2025
Proportion of work : Full Time
Remuneration : Between €2,991.58 and €4,756.76 gross per month (depending on experience)

Missions

The postdoctoral researcher will carry out an experimental study of the effect of system dimensionality on the bistable phase transition in cavity polariton fluids. They will take part in the design, implementation, and analysis of experiments aimed at exploring the out-of-equilibrium behavior of these systems, including switching dynamics, state stability, and the influence of system geometry and size.

Activities

* Conduct spectroscopy experiments in semiconductor microcavities under resonant or non-resonant optical pumping.
* Shape the excitation beam both spatially and spectrally.
* Acquire and process data (intensity maps, hysteresis curves, etc.).
* Perform quantitative analysis of bistable phase transitions.
* Interact regularly with the project's theoretical researchers to interpret the results.
* Write reports and contribute to scientific publications.

Skills

PhD in experimental physics, quantum optics, nanophotonics, or condensed matter physics.
Strong experience in experimental optics (optical setups, continuous or pulsed lasers, imaging, interferometry).
Proficiency with control and data acquisition tools (Python).
Good analytical skills and scientific rigor.
Knowledge of polariton physics, optical cavities, or out-of-equilibrium phase transitions is a plus.
Ability to work in a team and collaborate with theoretical partners.

Work Context

The position is part of a project exploring out-of-equilibrium phase transitions in polariton systems, based at the Kastler Brossel Laboratory (Jussieu site). The postdoctoral researcher will work within a dynamic experimental team, in close collaboration with theoretical researchers, in an interdisciplinary environment combining optics, quantum physics, and nanostructures.

The laboratory is equipped with state-of-the-art optical equipment (tunable lasers, high-speed cameras, cryostats, etc.).

Constraints and risks

Work in an optical lab environment (dark conditions, laser radiation, strict adherence to safety protocols required).
Compliance with project-related deadlines; short-term contract (a few months), requiring a high level of autonomy.
