The postdoc will work on two ongoing projects led by Hillel Rapoport and Liam Wren-Lewis.
The first project will explore the impact of diverse peers in a large “service civique” program ongoing in France. The program aims to bring young people together from a variety of backgrounds in undertaking volunteer work, and in doing so facilitate a reduction in discrimination and an increase in social integration. The Postdoc will work closely with the partner NGO to collect data and facilitate the randomization of peer assignment. This project is at a very early stage, and therefore the Postdoc will have a large scope for designing research questions and survey instruments.
The second project is a quantitative survey of refugees being undertaken in collaboration with the Ministère de l'Intérieur and NGO partners. The survey aims to capture information on refugees who have recently gained refugee status and live in accommodation centers. This information includes details of their background and current well-being. The survey was piloted in the autumn of 2019 and is due to be rolled in 2020.
Responsibilities of the position will depend on the competencies of the researcher and project needs, and may include the following tasks:
• Coordinate the research on the service civique project
• Liaise with the NGO running the project
• Take the lead in designing and implementing the qualitative and quantitative surveys on this project
• Undertake a literature review of the relevant literature across academic disciplines
• PhD in social science (e.g. economics, sociology,…)
• Speaks and writes French fluently
• Speaks and reads English fluently
• Experience in designing surveys (quantitative and/or qualitative)
• Highly motivated by the research project
• A record of high quality research
The post-doctoral researcher (M / W) will be based in the premises of the Paris School of Economics on the Jourdan Campus of ENS in the 14th arrondissement of Paris and will be part of a dynamic team of researchers specializing in the migration.
The Paris School of Economics brings together a community of 140 researchers and around 200 doctoral students, and is one of the best economics departments in Europe. For more information, see https://www.parisschoolofeconomics.eu/
Applications will be considered on a rolling basis. The successful candidate will begin the position between September 2020 and January 2021, by which time they must have completed their PhD. The contract will be for one year with the option to renew for a second year.
