The Laboratoire de Météorologie Dynamique is looking for a post-doctoral researcher to work on the parameterization of internal gravity waves in the atmospheric component of the IPSL climate model. The candidate will develop parameterizations and evaluate them using balloon observations. He will then study the impact on the climate by performing long simulations with the IPSL model. Depending on his own skills and wishes, the candidate could also carry out research to improve the parameterization of mountains in this model, and in particular the interactions between the boundary layer parameterizations the and the mountain waves parameterization.
-Develop “off-line” gravity wave parameterizations guided by ECMWF re-analyzes
-Compare results with balloon measurements
-Implémenter et tester dans le modèle de climat de l'IPSL
-Implement and test in the IPSL climate model
PhD in Météorology, océanography, fluid dynamics, physics, climate dynamics
The LMD is a research unit of CNRS, it is at the forefront of research on the dynamical and physical processes that control the meteorology and the climate evolution. Within it, the DPAO team focuses more on the fundamental aspects. The project is part of an international consorium (USA, UK, Germany), the objective of which is to enable the parametrizations of gravity waves to benefit from artificial intelligence techniques. The post-doctorate will take place at the Ecole Normale Supérieure.
