Missions

The objective of the project generally concerns the development of a gas and plasma measurement cell in the terahertz range. This is based on the use of a terahertz waveguide specially designed for this application. The mission of the recruited person will be to design and use a measurement bench to determine the losses of the different waveguides in the frequency ranges considered in the project. These measurements will be carried out using vector network analyzers (VNAs), they will be carried out in free space using antennas adapted to the different frequency bands. Different opto-mechanical elements will be used to optimize the injection of the mode into the waveguide. This research will be part of a multi-partner and interdisciplinary project. In this context, we are looking for a motivated, curious person, who knows how to work both within the framework of a project and independently, with solid knowledge in the field of optics and/or microwaves as well as in the field of instrumentation and metrology. This offer meets the candidate's requirements for: - the desire to work within the framework of a collaborative and interdisciplinary project at the interface between optics/electronics and physics (spectroscopy) - the desire to develop a measurement bench with international state-of-the-art performance - the desire to perform measurements with rigor and to address scientific challenges.

Activités

Develop and use a terahertz characterization bench in free space based on vector network analyzers to determine the losses of different waveguides that will be used in a gas and plasma measurement cell. To do this, the expectations are: - Analyze the optomechanical needs of the characterization bench. Propose a measurement procedure. - Take charge of the use of the network analyzer. Characterize the performance of the measurement bench. - Carry out measurements of different waveguides in different frequency bands. - Exploit the results by processing the S2P files produced. This involves knowing how to: - Study the scientific needs, propose measurement procedures for the characterization bench. - Analyze the metrological constraints and develop the experimentation and measurement chain. - Write the functional and technical specifications. - Validate and qualify the performance of the measurement bench - Manage the instrumentation for carrying out the measurements, interpret them and validate them. - Present the measurements carried out to the team.

Contexte de travail

The candidate will be located at the IEMN, Avenue Poincaré, Villeneuve d'Ascq, which is one of the laboratories in the Renatech network in France. He/she will have full access to the various technical solutions required to implement the project. The IEMN brings together in a single structure the bulk of regional research in a vast scientific field ranging from the physics of materials and nanostructures to telecommunications systems and acoustic and microwave instrumentation. A particular effort is made on micro and nanotechnologies (nanostructures and nanoelectronics, microelectronics, microwaves and microsystems). The position is located in a sector covered by the protection of scientific and technical potential (PPST), and therefore requires, in accordance with the regulations, that your arrival be authorized by the competent authority of the MESR.
