Missions

In this context, the CNRS-IEMN offers a position which will contribute to the design and characterization at millimeter wave frequencies. Considering that the next step in wireless communications targets the use of the D band (130-175 GHz), the development of front ends specifically includes i) active basic elements such as power amplifiers (PA) and ii) validation of these circuits using advanced test benches.
The activities of the proposed Active Function Design position will focus on the design of active blocks using SiGe BiCMOS technology as a high-speed technology for systems beyond 5G and 6G. Among the targeted MMICs, the power amplifier (PA) will be at the heart of the work as well as the associated passive devices. Design activities will be carried out using industrial tools (Cadence) and design kits (DK). The work will be carried out at the IEMN, in close collaboration with 2 PhD students and staff.
In addition to daily work, participation in project reports, dissemination in conferences, workshops and contributions to journals will be the main task flow alongside laboratory activities.

- Monitoring the state of the art of active millimeter circuits, in D band.
- Definitions of circuit architectures, circuit design.
- Contribution to the implementation of D-band measurement benches.
- Writing simulation and test and summary reports.
- Participate in the definition of demonstrators.
- Interaction with project partners.

Compétences

You hold a doctorate level degree in electronics, electrical engineering or equivalent.
You master the use of design tools (Cadence, Virtuoso).
In-depth knowledge of electromagnetic waves is a plus.
Ideally, you have already worked on millimeter wave design.

Contexte de travail

The IEMN is studying the potential of architectures and active circuits for new generation transmission systems that will use the D band after 2026. Advanced industrial technologies enable such high frequencies. Beyond circuit design, the characterization of active devices requires, beyond linear, noise and power response measurements, the evaluation of circuit performance under analysis of modulated signals.
