Missions
The ERC-IONOS project (ERC-CoG, PI: F. ALIBART, 2018-2023 ) propose to shift the brain interface paradigm by developing new technologies designed to interact intimately with biological cells and capitalizing heavily on bio-inspiration. To reach this goal, the IONOS project will explore how to sense, stimulate and compute biological signals from in-vitro neural cells' assembly based on iono-electronic materials and devices. In addition to bio-signal sensing, these emerging devices offer basics functionalities such as memory, ion-electron signal's transduction, and amplification paving the way to a new generation of intelligent brain-machine interfaces. This project will demonstrate how these concepts associated to the bio-inspired computing paradigm can unlock our fundamental limitations for communicating with living neural cells. Proof of concept will show how an artificial system can efficiently send, receive and compute information from a biological one, which constitutes the basics of communication.
Activities
In the context of the ERC CoG IONOS project, we are looking for a talented postdoctoral candidate who will work on the technological development of iono-electronic materials and devices for electrophysiology of in-vitro neural cells cultures. The mission will span from the technological development of organic sensors (such as Organic Electro Chemical Transistors), their electrical and physical characterization, and analysis/processing of the electrophysiological signals from in-vitro and in-vivo measurements. The candidate will supervise 3 PhD and master students and will have to autonomously conduct a research project in a highly interdisciplinary field. The core of her/his work will be centered on cleanroom fabrication and development of the sensing platform at IEMN-Lille (France). Electrophysiological measurements and cells cultures will be carried out at Lille NeuroCog Center. She/he will have to interact extensively with expert in the field of nanotechnology, physics, chemistry, bio-chemistry and biology.
Skills
The candidate will have a PhD degree in relevant field for the project. Competences in bio-engineering and electrophysiology, micro-nano fabrication and electrical engineering are of first interest for this position. Strong background in nanotechnologies and Artificial Intelligence is an asset. Overall, the candidate should demonstrate strong academic achievements and an interest for interdisciplinary research.
Work Context
The candidate will work at IEMN-Lille. He will benefit from a state of the art cleanroom environment and advance characterization platforms. For more details about IEMN, please see https://www.iemn.fr. He will collaborate strongly with the LilleNeuroCog center and the 3IT-LN2 laboratory of Sherbrooke (Canada). Position is for 1 year with possibility of 2 years extension based on achievements.
Constraints and risks
Work in cleanroom environnement and work in bio lab level 2
