Job Description
Missions
Laboratory of Atmospheric Optics is offering a 3- to 6-month postdoctoral contract focusing on data processing and the retrieval of information on aerosol heterogeneity from photometric observations made by the AERONET network.
This position is part of a postdoctoral research project. The project focuses on the development and application of a remote sensing algorithm for monitoring the physicochemical properties of aerosols based on optical measurements taken from ground or space.
Activity
The work will consist of continuing to test and process data for inferring information on non-homogeneous aerosol model in the GRASP retrieval algorithm in order to improve the detection of mixing state and water content of aerosol.
This project builds on four doctoral theses previously conducted at LOA that established the basis for parameterizing aerosol composition.
The successful candidate will carry out a series of applications of the algorithm and write a publication describing the algorithm and analyzing the results obtained.
The work will consist of conducting research in the field of atmospheric aerosol remote sensing, documenting and communicating the results to the scientific community. It will also include reviewing existing literature, documenting digital tools, and writing scientific articles.
Your Profil
Skills
The candidate must have background in physics, atmospheric sciences, optics, or related disciplines, as well as strong programming skills.
Skills in big data processing and atmospheric radiative transfer are also required, as well as a good understanding of geophysical and atmospheric processes and the use of remote sensing for monitoring of aerosol transport, aerosol impact on environment and air quality.
The position involves international exchanges and the ability to work in a team.
Your Work Environment
The candidate will be working at the Laboratoire d'Optique Atmosphérique (LOA) in Lille, and be part of the team on “Interactions of Aerosol and Radiation”.
He/she will also work closely with the GRASP SAS company.
