Job Description
Missions
This postdoctoral project is part of an ambitious European initiative integrating tasks aiming at developing advanced manufacturing models for electrochemical energy conversion and storage systems. The primary goal of these models is to understand and predict the influence of manufacturing parameters on the microstructure of the electrodes used in these devices. The successful candidate will join Professor Alejandro A. Franco's team at the Laboratoire de Réactivité et Chimie des Solides (LRCS) located in Amiens, France. This team is internationally recognized for its expertise in the modeling and digitalization of manufacturing processes for electrochemical devices, multiscale modeling, and the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to accelerate their design and optimization.
The postdoctoral researcher will be responsible for implementing physical models, conducting numerical simulations, and comparing the obtained results with experimental data.
Activity
Specific activities will include:
- Using software such as LAMMPS and COMSOL Multiphysics to simulate and understand how manufacturing parameters influence the textural properties and electrochemical behavior of electrodes.
- Applying advanced numerical techniques, specifically the Discrete Element Method (DEM) and the Finite Element Method (FEM).
- Exploring and integrating Artificial Intelligence-based approaches to accelerate the optimization of model parameters and electrode design.
- Actively participating in European consortium project meetings.
- Writing project deliverables, progress reports, and scientific publications corresponding to the team's tasks in the project.
Your Profil
Skills
You must have a PhD degree in Physics, Chemistry, Materials Science, Engineering, or a closely related field.
- Technical Expertise: Strong knowledge on electrochemical energy devices, batteries and/or other electrochemical devices, experience in numerical modeling and simulation. Prior experience with DEM and/or FEM methods is desirable.
- Software & IT: Proficiency in simulation software such as LAMMPS or COMSOL Multiphysics is desirable. Programming skills (e.g., Python) and an interest in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning would be an asset.
- Soft Skills & Languages: Excellent ability to work collaboratively in an international and multidisciplinary environment. Independent, rigorous, and possessing strong communication skills. Fluency in English (written and spoken) is mandatory for interacting with European partners and writing deliverables.
Your Work Environment
The Laboratoire de Réactivité et de Chimie des Solides (LRCS), a dynamic joint research unit between the CNRS and the Université de Picardie Jules Verne, is located in Amiens. More than 130 people of 25 different nationalities work mainly on electrochemical energy storage technologies (batteries), solar energy conversion (photovoltaics) and hydrogen storage.
The position is located in a sector under the protection of scientific and technical potential (PPST), and therefore requires, in accordance with the regulations, that your arrival is authorized by the competent authority of the MESR.
