Job Description

Missions

The postdoctoral researcher will investigate the molecular mechanisms underlying olfactory orifice formation in zebrafish, focusing on the interactions between the olfactory placode and the overlying skin epithelium.
A major objective will be to identify the molecular identity and function of specialised skin cells that become remodelled above the olfactory placode, and to determine how they acquire the properties required for orifice formation. The project will also investigate the contribution of placodal cells, including non-neuronal mantle cells, to skin remodelling and orifice opening.
The project combines developmental and molecular biology, single-cell transcriptomics, bioinformatics, zebrafish genetics and live imaging.

Activity

The postdoctoral researcher will:
• characterise the molecular profiles of remodelled skin cells and compare them with neighbouring skin cells using FACS and single-cell transcriptomics (Smart-seq3), in collaboration with the Inforbio platform;
• identify and validate candidate molecular regulators of epithelial remodelling and skin–placode interactions using molecular, imaging and genetic approaches;
• characterise placodal cell populations and investigate their potential molecular signals involved in communication with the skin epithelium;
• analyse the consequences of candidate gene perturbations using zebrafish genetics, live imaging and quantitative image analysis;
• integrate molecular, transcriptomic and imaging data and contribute to publications and scientific presentations.

Your Profil

Skills

• PhD in developmental biology, cell biology, molecular biology, genetics or a related field;
• Strong experience in transcriptomics and bioinformatic analysis, preferably single-cell RNA sequencing;
• Interest in developmental biology, epithelial remodelling and tissue morphogenesis;
Experience with zebrafish, FACS, molecular biology, genetics, imaging or quantitative image analysis would be an advantage, but is not required.

Your Work Environment

The position is based at the Institut de Biologie Paris-Seine (IBPS), Sorbonne University / CNRS / INSERM, within the Development, Adaptation and Ageing unit (Dev2A; CNRS UMR8263 / INSERM U1345).
The researcher will join the research project led by Marion Baraban, project coordinator of the ANR OPEN project, within Marie Breau's team. The project brings together expertise in developmental biology, zebrafish genetics, molecular biology, single-cell genomics, quantitative imaging and mechanobiology.
The researcher will work closely with the Inforbio bioinformatics platform, as well as with technical and engineering support for zebrafish genetics and imaging. The project also involves collaborations with Institut Curie and biophysicists at IBPS.
The position is funded by the ANR OPEN project for 12 months, with the possibility of a one-year extension, and offers a highly collaborative environment with substantial scientific independence.

Constraints and risks

The position involves experimental work in a biological research laboratory, including the handling of zebrafish and biological and chemical reagents, as well as the use of laboratory and imaging equipment. Activities must be conducted in accordance with institutional health and safety procedures and applicable regulations. The position also involves computer-based analysis of transcriptomic and imaging data.
