Missions

Giant planets play a fundamental role in planetary formation and system dynamics.
Transiting photometry, high-contrast imaging, absolute astrometry (Gaia, Hipparcos) and radial velocities, or a combination of these techniques, make it possible to detect giant planets in a wide range of separations.
The aim of the research that will be carried out in our team is to obtain new constraints on planet formation, by optimizing the exploitation of data (planets, disks) from public catalogues and our observation programmes, and by adopting a statistical approach.

Activités

Our COBREX team is interested in
1/ the detection and orbital characterization of giants by combining the techniques mentioned to constrain the distribution of these planets beyond the ice line,
2/ the characterization of the atmosphere of giants to determine their atmospheric
and internal properties,
3/ the detection of debris discs in high contrast imaging, and the modeling of their structure in relation to the presence of planets.
Research may include observations, analysis of ground or space data, and/or modelling (disk/planet interactions, disks).

Compétences

- Knowledge in the field of exoplanets or debris disks, in particular their detection using at least one of the above methods.
- Languages and coding: python (essential), good background in Computer Sciences (expertise in AI/deep learning welcome).
Values: enthusiasm, tenacity, creativity, team spirit.
PhD [in physics or astronomy] required with knowledge of exoplanet science and/or debris disks.

Contexte de travail

We are recruiting up to 3 post-doctoral students for a period of 1.5 years, possibly
renewable, to work on these subjects.
The open post-docs are part of the ERC Cobrex project (PI: Anne-Marie Lagrange). The post-doc will work at the LIRA (Observatoire de Paris-Meudon).
The LIRA brings together experts in high-contrast imaging, astrometry, radial velocities, transit photometry, interferometry, solar system planets and planetary science, disks, exoplanet atmospheres and solar physics, providing a rich scientific environment. The team and Paris Observatory have their own calculation servers, some of which are dedicated to calculations carried out by the team in direct connection with the mission. Close collaboration with IPAG could be envisaged.
