Job Description
Missions
Design, assembly, commissioning, and testing of a prototype dedicated to the recycling of brominated/antimony-containing plastics.
The prototype will consist of various unit operations, including solvation, extraction, filtration, precipitation, regeneration, and distillation, which will need to be investigated, modelled, and optimized.
Activity
• Conduct experimental trials on polymer treatment (100 g to 1 kg per batch).
• Contribute to the design, installation, qualification, and commissioning of the prototype, as well as to the improvement of its constituent unit operations.
• Perform mass and energy balances of the process and analyze performance (yields, phase composition, and product purity).
• Develop and utilize a digital twin of the process (simulation and modelling) for scale-up purposes.
• Write progress reports, contribute to scientific dissemination (publications, presentations), and engage with project partners.
Your Profil
Skills
Strong experimental skills in solution chemistry and in the analysis of liquid and solid phases.
Proficiency in mass and energy balances, with an interest in process scale-up.
Skills in process simulation (e.g., Aspen Hysys/ProSim, DWSIM, COMSOL Multiphysics, CFD are a plus).
Autonomy, scientific rigor, and ability to work in an interdisciplinary team.
Your Work Environment
The PRODIGE project is part of the development of an innovative chemical recycling process for brominated and antimony-containing plastics from waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE). It aims to design and study a recycling prototype based on dissolution, leaching, and selective precipitation pathways, operating at moderate temperature and ambient pressure, in order to separate and recover valuable components (plastics, antimony, and brominated compounds). The postdoctoral researcher will directly contribute to scaling up the process (from laboratory scale to a prototype processing 1 kg of plastic per batch) and to increasing the technology readiness level (TRL 2 to 4).
Constraints and risks
Handling of chemicals, operation of equipment, and waste management, with mandatory use of personal protective equipment (PPE), in compliance with the institution's HSE regulations.
