Job Description

Missions

The successful candidate will develop new molecular materials based on rare-earth ions for quantum technologies, with particular emphasis on applications exploiting their optical and spin properties. The main mission will be to synthesize, purify and crystallize rare-earth molecular complexes, and to carry out their structural and physicochemical characterization. A key objective will be to establish relationships between chemical composition, crystal structure and properties relevant to quantum applications, in close interaction with researchers performing low-temperature spectroscopic measurements.

Activity

Synthesis of molecular complexes based on rare-earth ions, in particular lanthanides.
Optimization of synthesis, purification, recrystallization and single-crystal growth protocols.
Preparation of material series allowing control of composition, rare-earth-ion dilution, coordination environment and/or isotopic composition.
Structural and physicochemical characterization of the materials, including powder and/or single-crystal X-ray diffraction, vibrational spectroscopy and other characterization techniques available in the laboratory. Analysis and interpretation of structural and spectroscopic data in order to identify the chemical and structural parameters governing material properties.
Close collaboration with researchers performing low-temperature optical spectroscopy and spin-dynamics measurements.
Contribution to the design of new molecules and synthetic strategies based on experimental results.
Maintenance of laboratory records, data processing and archiving, preparation of reports, and contribution to scientific publications.
Presentation of results at project meetings and, where appropriate, at national and international conferences.
Contribution to the collective activities of the laboratory and compliance with health and safety procedures.

Your Profil

Skills

A PhD in chemistry, coordination chemistry, inorganic chemistry, molecular chemistry, materials chemistry, or a closely related field is required.

The candidate should have strong experimental experience in the synthesis and handling of molecular compounds. Previous experience with lanthanide complexes, single-crystal growth or molecular materials would be particularly valuable.

The following skills are desirable:

Strong command of standard techniques for the synthesis, purification and characterization of molecular compounds.
Experience in crystallization and optimization of single-crystal growth.
Knowledge of powder and/or single-crystal X-ray diffraction.
Ability to analyze and interpret structural and spectroscopic data.
Experimental rigor, autonomy and ability to document procedures in a reproducible manner.
Ability to work collaboratively in an interdisciplinary environment involving chemists and physicists.

Ability to communicate and write scientific results in English.

Previous experience in quantum technologies is not required. An interest in working at the interface between molecular chemistry, materials science and quantum physics is expected.

Your Work Environment

Constraints and risks

The position will be based at the Institut de Recherche de Chimie Paris (IRCP), Chimie ParisTech – PSL / CNRS, within an interdisciplinary research environment devoted to the development and study of rare-earth-based materials for quantum technologies.

The work will be carried out within the framework of the French Quantum PEPR programme, MolQIF project, which focuses on molecular systems for quantum technologies. The postdoctoral researcher will work in close collaboration with chemists, physicists and spectroscopists developing new molecular materials and investigating their optical and spin properties at low temperature.

The project benefits from an experimental environment combining facilities for chemical synthesis, structural and physicochemical characterization, and advanced optical spectroscopy of rare-earth ions. Collaborations with several French and international research teams involved in the project are also expected.

The overall objective is to develop an integrated approach ranging from molecular and materials design and synthesis to the evaluation of their properties for quantum technologies.
