Job Description
Missions
The postdoctoral researcher will contribute to the French ANR-funded AQUABATT project, whose overall objective is to understand the mechanisms of interfacial degradation in lithium batteries based on water-in-salt (WISE) electrolytes. Advanced characterization tools will be employed to investigate the formation and stability of the electrode–electrolyte interface.
Within this project, the postdoctoral researcher will be involved in electrochemical characterization, electrode preparation, and analyses using synchrotron-based spectroscopic techniques. The experimental data obtained from these different techniques will be then correlate to achieve a comprehensive understanding of the interfacial processes.
Activity
The postdoctoral researcher will contribute to various aspects of the project, including:
- Electrochemical characterization as a function of electrolyte formulation;
- Preparation of electrodes for ex situ and operando experiments;
- Conducting XPS and HAXPES experiments at synchrotron;
- Conducting infrared (IR) spectroscopy experiments at synchrotron;
- Conducting X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS) experiments at synchrotron;
- Processing and analyzing experimental data;
- Collaborating with project partners and beamline scientists;
- Writing beamtime proposals for synchrotron access applications;
- Writing scientific publications and presenting results at conferences.
Your Profil
Skills
Candidate must hold a PhD in Physical Chemistry, Physics, or Materials Science at the start of the project and possess research experience relevant to the project's theme and activities. A strong background in electrochemistry and synchrotron-based characterization techniques will be highly valued. Experience in programming, particularly in Python, is desirable. Proficiency in both spoken and written English is required.
Your Work Environment
The PHENIX Laboratory (Physico-Chemistry of Electrolytes and Interfacial Nanosystems) is a Joint Research Unit between the CNRS and Sorbonne University. It is located on the Pierre and Marie Curie campus in central Paris. The laboratory comprises approximately 90–100 researchers, faculty members, PhD students, and postdoctoral researchers, and conducts research in the fields of energy (electrochemical storage, recycling, etc.), health (nanoparticles for imaging, etc.), and the environment (waste storage, water treatment, etc.).
The postdoctoral researcher will join the Electrochemistry and Ionic Liquids team and will carry out research within the framework of the ANR AQUABATT project. Experimental studies at synchrotron facilities will be conducted during the postdoctoral appointment, mainly at SOLEIL and ESRF synchrotrons.
The position is located within a sector subject to the protection of scientific and technical potential (PPST) and therefore requires, in accordance with regulations, authorization of your appointment by the competent authority of the French Ministry of Higher Education and Research (MESR).
