Your Work Environment

Host institution: The Roscoff Biological Station (SBR) is a research center specializing in marine biology and oceanography (https://www.sb-roscoff.fr/fr/qui-sommes-nous). It is located in the town of Roscoff on the north coast of Brittany, approximately 60 km east of Brest. The SBR has a staff of over 200 permanent employees.
The position is funded by the European project "SALINA" (Scalable macroAlgae cuLtivation systems for INnovative Applications in the food, cosmetic, and construction sectors; Horizon Europe – JU-CBE 2025). SALINA aims to demonstrate the technical, economic, and environmental feasibility of large-scale, scalable macroalgae cultivation and biomass processing via biorefineries. The project seeks to deliver a portfolio of five innovative, high-value-added products for the food, cosmetic, and biomaterial sectors, while building a new ecosystem and boosting the economy of European coastal regions. It will rely on four demonstration sites across various EU marine regions: the North and East Atlantic, the Baltic Sea, and the Mediterranean. It will test innovative mixed macroalgae cultivation systems—whether implemented independently, in combination with other low-trophic-level species, or integrated into nature-based solutions.
The engineer will be based within the CMAR shared service unit of UMR 8227 (Laboratory of Integrative Biology of Marine Models)—a project beneficiary—and will join the Secretariat of the Global Seaweed Coalition, which operates across multiple sites in France and abroad. The role will involve significant interaction with laboratories and companies, notably F6S (responsible for WP7: dissemination of SALINA results to European and international stakeholders) and ArticSeaweed (responsible for WP6: stakeholder mapping). The appointee will report to the SALINA scientific lead within UMR 8227. The Project Officer will liaise with the Partnership and Technology Transfer Department of the CNRS Brittany–Pays de la Loire regional office and the CNRS Foundation regarding administrative matters.
Annual leave and RTT (working time reduction) days: 44 days.
Remote work in accordance with CNRS policies.
