Job Description

Missions

Study of heat transport in magnetic materials

Activity

i) Development and use of experimental equipment for the study of charge and heat transport in quantum materials. This includes the design of sample holders for low-temperature transport measurements, as well as electrical, thermal, and thermoelectric transport measurements at low temperatures and under magnetic fields.

(ii) Modeling of results using the Callaway model for the analysis of thermal conductivity data.

Your Profil

Skills

Solid experience in the study of quantum materials at low temperatures, ideally in:

Thermal transport (thermal conductivity, Nernst effect, etc.);
Electrical transport (resistivity, Hall effect, magnetoresistance).
In-depth theoretical knowledge of thermal transport:

Phonon and electron scattering mechanisms;
Callaway model for thermal conductivity;
Electron-phonon coupling and boundary effects.
Practical skills: Proven experience in implementing physical measurement interfaces.

Your Work Environment

This fixed-term research position (CDD) is part of the ANR MELODY project. The project aims to identify new phonon scattering mechanisms in magnetic materials to optimize their thermal conductivity.
The MELODY project relies on three major experimental techniques and one computational approach:

Sample growth and structural characterization;
Thermal conductivity and specific heat measurements (the focus of this job offer);
Neutron scattering (phonons, magnetic excitations, and their coupling);
First-principles calculations (ab initio).
The selected candidate will have the opportunity to collaborate with each of the project partners.
