Job Description

Missions

To identify and characterise the role of tomato small RNAs in the post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression in a phytopathogenic bacterium

Activity

The project aims to identify and characterise endogenous small non-coding RNAs from tomato that directly regulate gene expression in the pathogenic bacterium Pseudomonas syringae. More specifically, the candidate will identify all the tomato small RNAs internalised by this pathogenic bacterium and their impact on the reprogramming of bacterial gene expression. In particular, he or she will analyse the potential involvement of tomato transposable elements in the production of antibacterial small RNAs. Finally, functional assays will be carried out to determine whether some of these small RNAs are involved in the regulation of essential or virulence genes in the bacterium during infection, as well as in antibacterial resistance. To this end, approaches from genetics, genomics, molecular biology and cell biology will be employed.

Your Profil

Skills

Expertise is required in molecular biology, biochemistry, genomics and cell biology techniques (cloning, RT-qPCR, Western blot, co-immunoprecipitation, sequencing of small RNAs and mRNAs following protein immunoprecipitation, and low molecular weight Northern blot analyses).

Your Work Environment

The candidate will work within an international research team investigating the molecular mechanisms of host-pathogen interactions and the post-transcriptional and epigenetic regulation of gene expression (using the following model systems: microalgae, plants and human cells). The candidate will have access to all IBENS platforms (imaging, genomics, plant-algae, etc.) and will be provided with a bench space and an office within the team.
