Spintec is calling for applications for a postdoctoral fellowship in spintronics on magnetic skyrmions. Magnetic skyrmions are topological spin textures that are promising for storing and manipulating information at the nanoscale. Spintec has recently demonstrated magnetic skyrmions at room temperature in ultrafine nanostructures [1] and their manipulation using the gate electric field[2,3], electric current [4] and light[5]. These results are a first step towards the practical realization of logic and memory devices based on magnetic skyrmions. The objective of the post-doc will be to study the manipulation of skyrmions by current and electric field in specially designed materials (ultrathin layers, 2D materials) for memory and logic applications.

Activities will include sample preparation (growth, material characterization, nanofabrication), characterization of magneto-transport and magnetic properties, magnetic microscopy experiments and analytical model and micromagnetic simulation modelling.

PhD in solid state physics, nanophysics or equivalent discipline is expected, as well as experience in nanomagnetism or spintronics. Experience in nanofabrication would be an asset.

Work Context

This position is part of a larger project to advance fundamental knowledge of magnetic skyrmions for technological applications in memory and logic. The project includes several French and European partners (FZ Jülich). The post-doctorate will be carried out within the magnetic skyrmion activity of the Spintec laboratory supervised by Olivier Boulle. The position will be carried out in close collaboration with the micromagnetism group, led by Liliana Prejbeanu. To carry out the project, the Spintec laboratory has several sputtering deposition and MBE machines, MOKE and MFM microscopes, variable temperature magneto-transport experiments, a nanofabrication clean room (upstream technology platform (PTA) within the laboratory). At the crossroads of science and technology, Spintec is one of the leading research laboratories in spintronics. The Spintec laboratory is located on the CEA site in Grenoble, France.

Additional Information

Several post-doctoral positions are open within the framework of this project: several experimental positions (characterization, microscopy, material growth) as well as a modelling / numerical simulation position (see announcements UMR8191-OLIBOU-00x)
