Job Description
Missions
The successful candidate will contribute to:
• Designing, setting up, and executing balloon campaigns for aerosol collection;
• Conducting laboratory-based chemical analyses of aerosol samples;
• Communicating results through reports, presentations, and scientific publications.
Activity
This position is part of the ANR project (Stratospheric Impacts of Space Activities), which focuses on studying the size distribution and chemical composition of stratospheric aerosols. The overarching goal of the StratoPart initiative is to identify and quantify the anthropogenic contribution to stratospheric aerosol populations.
As part of this project, the selected candidate will contribute to balloon-based aerosol sampling campaigns and perform chemical analyses of collected samples. This work will be conducted in close collaboration with project partners, including the LPC2E and ISTEP laboratories.
Your Profil
Skills
Applicants should hold a Master's degree or equivalent in atmospheric physics, chemistry, or a related field, with, ideally, the following skills and experience:
• Strong scientific programming skills (e.g., Python);
• Prior experience in instrumental development, particularly for balloon payloads;
• Experience in chemical analyses of aerosol samples, including isotopic analyses;
• Proficiency in the Linux environment;
• Fluent English (C1 level or higher, both written and oral).
Your Work Environment
• Host Laboratory: The position is based at LATMOS (Laboratoire Atmosphères, Observations Spatiales, https://latmos.ipsl.fr/fr/), a joint research unit specializing in the study of physicochemical processes in Earth's and planetary atmospheres, as well as their interactions with the surface, oceans, and interplanetary medium. LATMOS has developed expertise in innovative instrumentation for ground-based, orbital, and space missions, alongside numerical atmospheric modeling to interpret observational data.
