Missions

Thermoplastic elastomers (TPEs) are materials with the mechanical properties of elastomers, but with the ability to be processed like conventional thermoplastics. Their particular microstructure gives them a soluble and meltable character, unlike conventional rubbers. They are used in particular when traditional thermoplastics cannot meet certain requirements of the specifications or as additives when the objective is to improve the impact resistance of conventional thermoplastics.
The last decades have highlighted the importance of sustainable development. In this context, the use of renewable and biodegradable resources appears as an evidence. The objective of the project is to develop new polymeric structures entirely composed of "molecular bricks" from biomass, including itaconic acid, to make new thermoplastic elastomers completely biosourced.

Activités

At first, it will be necessary to synthesize monomers according to a photoredox process with visible light before engaging them in a polymerization step. A particular attention will be paid to the relations structures / properties of the formed TPE.

Compétences

The candidate must have a thesis in chemistry during which he/she will have acquired skills in organic chemistry (synthesis, purification and analysis). The dual competence in organic chemistry/polymer chemistry is a plus. The candidate must be particularly motivated, organized, curious and able to work in a team.
The salary will be adjusted to the CNRS salary grid according to the candidate's experience.

Contexte de travail

The research work will be carried out at the University of Lille, in the “Unité de Catalyse et de Chimie du solide” (UCCS), in the team CAtalyse et Synthèse Eco-Compatible (CASECO) under the supervision of Dr. Till Bousquet (Organic Chemistry and Photocatalyzed Synthesis) and Prof. Philippe Zinck (Polymer Chemistry and Structural Studies). The mechanical characterization will be performed at the Unité Matériaux et Transformations (UMET) under the supervision of Dr. Grégory Stoclet.

Le poste se situe dans un secteur relevant de la protection du potentiel scientifique et technique (PPST), et nécessite donc, conformément à la réglementation, que votre arrivée soit autorisée par l'autorité compétente du MESR.
